About Us

We were established in 1993 by a dedicated service mother who identified the need for childcare provision to support soldiers and families within Dalton Barracks.

Yvonne arrived in 1996 to take up the position of Nursery Manager and has been at the setting ever since. Under Yvonne’s leadership the numbers steadily grew resulting in the proud opening of additional facilities in 2011.

We now have about 80 registered children and 18 staff – a mixture of full or part time.

We believe our outstanding childcare, our understanding of military life and our flexibility remain at the heart of our success.

Dalton Pre-School Nursery is a registered charity and is run by the Nursery Manager Yvonne, under the guidance of a committee and three Trustees. The Trustees give their time and expertise voluntarily.

Our Pre-School – Our Family – Our Community

Offering a safe and inclusive environment, our setting thrives on providing a secure ‘home-from-home’ feel, where your child will be given opportunities to flourish in their own personal development.

With a strong military connection, this enables us to offer the children lots of additional, readily available learning opportunities, as well as exploring different cultures, celebrations and festivals.

Helping Your Child Explore, Learn & Grow.

Early learning gives children a great start in life.

Through playing and learning with other children in a safe structured environment, they’ll have a head start when they start school.

Activities

Stories

The children have access to a wonderful array of story books and regularly enjoy taking part in ‘Story Time’.

The use of fantastic props, puppets, interactive tools and imaginative narrative really bring those stories to life.

Feeding our children’s ever-growing wonderful imaginative, encouraging recall of key events, figures and role play.

Music & Movement

We are very fortunate to be able to offer the children fortnightly ‘Boogie Beat’ sessions, hosted by Vici.

Every Boogie Beat session is packed full of energetic, fun activities using themes like traditional fairy tales and nursery rhymes. We use our own music and illustrations and a wide variety of props like scarves, parachutes and percussion instruments.”

Creativity & Crafting

Using of an array of materials and media, the children are encouraged to express themselves through the media of creating and crafting.

Exploring colours, textures, the use of tools and developing their fine motor skills.

Thanking

The children are encouraged to develop their understanding through play by engaging in activities that require thought, problem solving, evaluating their actions and reviewing their play approach.
